The Senate is Voting on Disclose Act Tuesday, July 27th!

The DISCLOSE Act entails special exemptions for labor unions, the National Rifle Association, and others. Many groups are opposed to this legislation, such as National Right to Life, the ACLU, and the Sierra Club. The 450 groups against the legislation come from all areas of the political spectrum. This is not a right or left issue. The DISCLOSE ACT is a First Amendment issue.

Labor unions have vowed to spend millions in November, while they hope to silence the grassroots through this legislation.  Even Senator Scott Brown opposes this legislation.  You can read here why he opposes this bill, why he thinks certain groups are being favored and why this law is not fair to organizations or the elections.

How is it fair for groups to have rules to abide by while others are exempt? Exactly how fair are these new rules? The grassroots and little guys are who it affects! Listen to this clip from the Mark Levin show that explains how the legislation will work.

If this legislation passes it will go into effect in 30 days.  Yes, you read that right…30 days!  They are wasting no time because we have them running scared and they must do everything they can to silence us before November.

Today, July 27th, there will be a vote on cloture on the motion to proceed.

There is no time to waste. Today is the day we must all call and take action. They need 60 votes. We must tell the following Senators to vote no on this vote.

Dirty Harry Reid and his gang are doing this because we have made a difference over the past year.  If we had not been so successful, they would not be trying to silence us.  We must not give up now!

Please call right NOW!  Tell them to vote No! Time is of the essence before we are all silenced.

The Gulfathon is a nationwide telethon and radio-a-thon to help the people of the Gulf Coast.  We have all seen the pictures of the oil covered birds and oil soaked marshes and wetlands and thus know that this is an ecological disaster of epic proportions.  At the same time, there is a human tragedy to this disaster that needs to be profiled.  While the federal government continues to focus on crucifying BP and creating more red tape for the clean up efforts, the grassroots movement in this country wants to do what Americans do best…help our own.  This is what America does, Americans help Americans.

American Grassroots Coalition and our partners in this project, want to give these people a chance to have their stories told and faces seen.  We want the rest of America to see what is happening in the Gulf Coast region.  While it is easy to see and grasp the environmental damage because it is tangible, it is not as easy to see the economic damage.  It is impossible to take a picture of a lost job.  The Gulfathon is a vehicle to allow these stories to be told in an effort to bring the human element to this disaster.

The Gulf telethon (Gulfathon) will be held live in the Gulf Coast region and will be broadcast live on the internet.  We will also be working with radio talk show hosts across the country to have the Gulfathon promoted on radio shows. In addition to the webcast, there will be a radio-a-thon on the same day.  Radio talk show hosts across the country will devote their shows to the Gulfathon, and raise money directly from their audiences.  This will be Exectuive-produced by Mike Siegel, nationally recognized host, and former President of the National Association of Radio Talk Show Hosts, and Kathryn Serkes, President of Square One Media.

The format of the Gulfathon will be to have citizens in the Gulf Coast region tell their stories, both live and in video format.  We will be highlighting some of the worse hit areas in the region.  We are partnering with celebrities and high profile people in an effort to make this as successful as possible.

The money collected will be divided up and sent to one or two charities in each of the four Gulf Coast states of LA, MS, AL, and FL.  We are currently working with the state authorities to determine which charities are best suited to accept the money on behalf of the Gulfathon.

This is a project that will be most successful when partnering with other organizations.  We would like to ask for your support in this effort of helping America’s own citizens in the Gulf Coast region.

If you are interested in participating or being involved, please email gulfathon@gmail.com.

The past couple of weeks have been busy inside of politics. Here are a few of the highlights:

Elena Kagan Nominated to the Supreme Court

At the beginning of last week, the President named his Supreme Court nominee to replace Justice John Paul Stevens. President Obama has nominated Elena Kagan. You can read more about Elena Kagan and her career here. On Thursday evening, RedState.com published Kagan’s thesis on their website. Within 24 hours, they were forced to remove the thesis because Princeton University claimed it was a copyright infringement.  This is going to be an intense summer with this confirmation process.  We will keep you updated as the confirmation process proceeds.  Please check back soon, as we will be creating a tab on our website dedicated to this nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Tea Party Victory in Utah

On Saturday, May 8th, the Tea Party and the people of Utah snagged a big victory when they knocked off the Republican incumbent Senator Robert Bennett at the Republican State Convention in Salt Lake City.  This midterm election cycle is considered to be very anti-incumbent and volatile.  Senator Bennett is what could be considered the first big victory for the grassroots movement sweeping the nation.  You can read more about Senator Bennett’s loss in Utah right here.

Tea Party Victory in West Virginia

On Tuesday, Representative Alan Mollohan (D-WV) was defeated in the Democratic primary.  Rep. Mollohan was running for his 15th term in a very anti-incumbent political environment.  This was a victory for the people and the Tea Party in West Virginia.  You can read more about this Tea Party victory in West Virginia here.

Financial Regulatory Reform in Senate

The Dodd Financial Reform Bill is still on the Senate floor.  This week, many amendments were brought to the floor.  The week of May 17th will be used dealing with amendments as well.  This is the current list of amendments for the week of May 17th:

The current pending amendments to the Financial Reform Bill are:

  • Brownback #3789 (auto dealers exemption)
  • Snowe #3883 (small business fairness)
  • Specter #3776 (aiding and abetting class action/Stoneridge)
  • Leahy #3823 (McCarran Ferguson repeal)
  • Whitehouse #3746 (state usury laws)
  • Rockefeller #3758 (FTC)
  • Udall #4016 (credit scores)

By consent the following amendments are in order to be offered:

  • Crapo (GSEs on budget)
  • Shelby (Consumer Bureau)
  • Vitter (protecting manufacturers)
  • Cantwell/McCain (Glass-Steagall)

We will keep you posted on this legislation and will be sending out an action alert on who to target.

Cap & Tax in Senate

Just when you thought there was enough going on, Senators Kerry and Lieberman bring back the “Cap & Tax’ to the Senate floor.  This is a battle we will be gearing up to fight over the coming weeks and months.  You can read more about this legislation right on Senator John Kerry’s website.entire bill here.  You can read a summary of the bill hereYou can read what the Wall Street Journal has to say about the legislation here.

Eric Holder plans to challenge Arizona law, but has not read the Arizona law.

Last Thursday, Attorney General Eric Holder was being questioned by the House Judiciary Committee, when he admitted that he had not read the 10 page Arizona law.  Since April, the Attorney General has commented regularly on the AZ law and questioned the constitutionality of the law, yet he has not yet read the law.  This is nothing unusual.  As a matter of fact, how many Congressman and Senators have signed legislation into law without even reading the legislation?  You can read more about the Attorney General not reading the AZ law here. You can see the video of him admitting to not reading the law here.

Don’t Want to Miss:

Governor Chris Christie of NJ

The Governor of New Jersey doesn’t mince his words.  When questioned by a reporter about being confrontational, he lets the reporter know exactly what his is thinking.  Too bad we don’t have more elected officials that will take a stand such as Governor Christie.  Watch the Governor in the video below.   This was too good not  to share.

Apr 222010
There is no time for playing in the dirt this spring.  Congress is back in session and once again, on the fast track to take away some of your freedoms and liberties.  They think we are not paying attention and are going to let them scoot this nonsense past us.  It is up to us to stand strong and stop their attempt at creating a PERMANENT bailout fund of $50 BILLION dollars!  Yes, you read that correctly! THIS IS TARP all over again!

Senate Bill 3217, also known as the Restoring American Financial Stability Act of 2010, was introduced by Democrat Senator Chris Dodd of Connecticut.  This bill may come to the Senate floor as early as today.  Once it comes to the floor, it can be voted on 72 hours later.  Time is of the essence in this matter!

You know the drill…we need all hands on deck to be calling, faxing, and emailing.  The list of targets is listed below.  If you call a Senator’s office and they tell you that they don’t represent you, please politely let them know that their vote affects all Americans. You may also remind them of the power of the people…Senator Scott Brown’s election and Congressman Bart Stupak’s retirement are great examples!

You can read Senate Bill 3217 HERE.

Do you want to know more specifics on this horrendous legislation that is being shoved down our throats?  Just to give you a few examples of the horrors included in this legislative power grab…if passed, this will allow the federal government to access your personal bank records, credit card records, and financial portfolio! This will allow for takeovers of “nonbank” companies and the government will determine this on a case by case basis and there is no judicial review required to take over any financial institution. This legislation will also create a PERMANENT $50 Billion Dollar bailout fund (emergency fund) that the federal government can tap into on a whim.  Where is the oversight?  There is much more than this, but this should give you a taste of what they are attempting to do with this legislation.

What are you going to do to stop this?  Please call, email and fax today!  This cannot wait another day.

Please also email the Chief of Staff for each of these Senators. They need to hear from you!

Saturday was a great day in our nation’s capitol! The people came by train, automobile, bus, and airplane. They came by the thousands! The people wanted to be seen and to have their voices heard. The people wanted to let their elected officials know that we do not want a government takeover of health care. At the end of the day, I think the message was loud and clear!

Here are a few photos from Saturday. We will update with more information shortly, but this gives you an idea of what happened on the lawn of our Capitol on Saturday!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Broad TEA Party & Grassroots Coalition Aligns To “Kill The Bill”

WASHINGTON, DC (March 18, 2010) – The past two weeks has seen the “Take The Town Halls To Washington” initiative get nearly 1,000 people to DC to meet with approximately 30 Congressman. The event culminated in the rally at Taft Park near the Capitol, which was sponsored by Tea Party Express. Over 1,500 people assembled to rally against the health care bill and then meet with their representatives. While the Capitol Police diverted the stage and sound for the park rally, grass roots activists innovated and used a park bench and bull horn to get their message to the attendees!

With the critical nature of a looming Congressional decision, a broad coalition of Tea Party organizations and leadership is launching the final push before a possible vote by the House. These events are being coordinated across the US and are aimed at communicating the frustration of the people while demanding the termination of this health bill legislation. While the DNC and the administration continue to obfuscate and confuse, this coalition is focused on getting activists involved prior to Pelosi’s maneuvering.

The following actions are planned for the next 72 hours:

  • Calling campaigns to the House by constituents to vote no on the bill
  • “Talk to Washington” health care town halls in Mississippi, Pennsylvania and other states
  • Code Red rally in Washington, DC at 12 noon on Saturday on the West Lawn (new location)
  • Nationwide “Virtual Vigil” on BlogTalk radio sponsored by DoctorsandPatients.org
  • Candlelight vigil around the Capitol on Saturday night

Featured entertainment and speakers at the Washington, D.C. Rally on Saturday will include:

  • Lisa Norton, National Anthem
  • Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann (MN)
  • Congressman Tom Price (GA)
  • Congressman Joe Wilson (SC)
  • Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (TN)
  • Congressman Phil Gingrey (GA)
  • State Legislator Mary Fallin (OK)
  • State Senator Judson Hill (GA)
  • Actor & Conservative Jon Voight
  • Dr. Milton Wolf, Barack Obama’s second cousin who opposes Obamacare
  • Colin Hanna, Let Freedom Ring
  • Jim Martin, 60 Plus
  • Phil Kerpen, Americans for Prosperity
  • Tim Phillips, Americans for Prosperity
  • Andrew Langer, Institute for Liberty
  • Kathryn Serkes, Doctor Patient Medical Association
  • Mark Skoda, Memphis Tea Party
  • Amy Kremer, Tea Party Express
  • Jennifer Hulsey, American Grassroots Coalition

  • Ben Cunningham, Founder of the Tennessee Tax Revolt
  • Darla Dawald, Grassfire / Resistnet
  • Toby Marie Walker, Waco Tea Party
  • Michael Patrick Leahy, Nationwide Tea Party Coalition
  • Ken Emanuelson, Dallas Tea Party

Grassroots activists everywhere have worked to inform themselves, notify their representatives of their objections and take action in the form of rallies, meetings and calls into those representatives. Individual groups have worked to stop the health care legislation while coordinating with each other to amplify their message and their efforts.

Amy Kremer, of Tea Party Express, commented, “We had a great rally this week in DC and people have overwhelmed us with their desire to do it again on Saturday. With so many people concerned about this legislation and the ability to come to Washington on a weekend, we are working within this coalition to expand the Code Red rally participation .”

The coalition of Tea Party and grassroots organizations and leadership is committed to changing the dynamics of this legislative process. The Democratic led Congress is using procedural and legislative rules to ignore the overwhelming opposition to this bill. The will of the American people is being subverted by these actions and the grass roots activists who make up this coalition are focusing their energy to kill the bill.

The coalition includes:

  • 60 Plus
  • Alexandria Tea Party
  • American Grassroots Coalition
  • Americans for Prosperity
  • Americans for Tax Reform
  • Cincinnati Tea Party
  • Cincinnati 9/12 Project
  • Concerned Women for America
  • Constitutional Sovereignty Alliance
  • Constitutional Tea Party
